I’m Joy C. Hermalyn, a 50+ year member of our Union, and I’m running for Eastern Principal Councilor.

I’m running because I believe in showing up, listening, and helping strengthen our Union for the next generation.

Joining Equity as a young performer remains one of the defining moments of my life. It shaped my understanding of what it means to be part of a community of artists and advocates.

Why This Role Matters

Equity elections shape the decisions that impact our daily working lives - from access to auditions to pay, safety, and conditions.

My Priorities

If elected, I will advocate for:

  • Wages that reflect today’s industry realities, especially in touring contracts
  • Expanded education programs and more affordable training opportunities
  • Mental health support recognized as workplace safety
  • Mentorship opportunities for emerging artists
  • Financial literacy and career sustainability resources

Additional Areas of Focus:

  • Expanded access to health insurance and COBRA subsidies
  • Protection of pensions
  • Continued commitment to inclusion and representation

Experience

My career spans Broadway, touring, LORT, LOA, and Guest Artist contracts across the country and Canada.

I’ve served as Equity Deputy on nearly every production I’ve been part of, working closely with Business Representatives and advocating for my fellow actors.

As a teacher of voice, acting, and audition technique, I’ve built a reputation as a trusted resource – offering clarity, guidance, and practical support to artists navigating both craft and career.

I will bring that same accessibility, knowledge, and follow-through to this work.

I believe deeply in this Union and in the artists who make it strong.
