"As Marthy, Chris's goodtime girl and Jimmy-the-Priest's saloon regular, mezzo-soprano Joy Hermalyn also deserves mention. She provides comic relief and captures the portrayal of a denizen of an O'Neill dive bar perfectly."
    Talkin’ Broadway - James Wilson

"In the brief but memorable role of Marthy, Chris’s aging girlfriend and longtime seafaring companion, the versatile Joy Hermalyn used her powerful lower range and impressive comic gifts to sketch a vivid, likably colorful character…and performed with outstanding diction!"
    ZealNYC - Josh Rosenblum

"Joy Hermalyn brought a brassy mezzo-soprano and prickly bearing as Marthy, a colorful old regular at Chris’s favorite dingy pub."
NY Classical Review - Eric Simpson

"Marthy was played in a brief but funny & endearing performance by Joy Hermalyn." - Loren Lester

  • Disney's Beauty and the Beast

"Joy Hermalyn shines as Madame de la Grande Bouche, the opera star turned into a chest of drawers. Short, well-sung bursts of opera and plenty of comic moments are handled nicely here."
    - Sally Applegate, Wicked Local Beverly

About Joy

Joy has been singing, acting and attempting to dance for an extremely long time. Beginning at age 8 in her first role as the title character in Oliver! (apparently there were no actual boys in Teaneck, New Jersey), Joy has been trying to stay in show business ever since. She transitioned from child actor, to regular kid, to actor with a child thanks to her very supportive family. Joy loves musical theatre, opera, symphonic music, movies and a good rock concert equally. With credits ranging from Romper Room to Serpico to Fiddler on the Roof to The Crucible, Joy loves the life that chose her, though sometimes yearns for the stability her civilian friends enjoy. Well, only sometimes.
